What will 2022 bring for audit and accountancy regulation?
Julie Matheson
Since 2008, many UK employers have been used to the compliance responsibilities of holding a sponsor licence. From 1 December 2020, many more UK employers need to apply for a sponsor licence given it is necessary to submit Skilled Worker applications for non-EU and EU citizens.
The Global Business Mobility routes also require the business to apply for a sponsor licence.
Despite many more employers needing to obtain a sponsor licence, the compliance obligations and reporting requirements are no less onerous. Where we assist our clients with applying for a sponsor licence, we provide a mock audit service and regular ‘health checks.’ Breaches of the sponsor licence duties can lead to suspension or even revocation of the licence and the possible need to terminate all sponsored workers’ employment.
Aside from holding a sponsor licence, all UK employers are required to ensure they have appropriate prevention of illegal working practices in place and that the correct right to work procedures are followed.
We have many years’ experience in advising small and large sponsors on how to avoid any compliance issues. However, if things do go wrong and the Home Office initiates a compliance visit or takes action against you, we will provide you with robust and complete representation in order to help avoid disruption to your business.
