Will the Scale-up visa stand-up to the hype?
Tim Richards
Opening on 22 August 2022, the Scale-up category offers a route for high-growth UK businesses to sponsor skilled applicants from overseas.
Scale-up provides more flexibility than Skilled Worker as the sponsorship is only required to last for 6 months, after which the person can work on an employed and self-employed basis.
Only high-growth businesses can apply to be a sponsor, meaning they must have at least 10 employees and in the last three years had either 20% growth in employees or turnover.
Scale-up is a category which can lead to settlement (indefinite leave to remain).
Applying for a sponsor licence
The Scale-up category requires the business to apply for a sponsor licence and meet strict compliance and audit responsibilities.
