Discrimination gone mad? A surrogate mother's plea

Whilst maternity pay and protection is not an issue for high profile women using surrogates to become mothers, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, it is a very real problem and issue for most average working women who are not Hollywood superstars. It was widely reported in the press last week that a mother who had a child using a surrogate is taking the Government to the High Court to win the right to receive maternity pay. She is claiming that her human rights are being breached by being denied the opportunity to take paid maternity leave to look after and bond with her son.

The first Family Dispute Resolution Week – a battle for ‘hearts and minds’

Record number of babies born to foreign-born mothers

The Government has just published updated figures showing that over ¼ (25.5%) of children born in the UK have a foreign-born mother. This is the highest proportion since records began in 1969. In London the figure is a staggering 56.7%.

Separation: An alternative to divorce for disadvantaged couples?

A report published by researchers at Ohio State University has shown that although long-term separation is not the first choice for many couples, it is becoming the low cost do-it-yourself alternative to divorce for low income families in the United States.
