The great transparency debate – what do other states do?

The need for greater openness in the workings of the Family Courts v right to respect for the private and family lives of children and their parents is an ongoing and very lively debate. We are at a crossroads. The left-hand turn leads to greater access to Family Court hearings and in reporting on the evidence before the Court and the outcome of the proceedings.

How to raise the menopause in divorce and financial proceedings

In my previous blog, "Divorce during the menopause - should I talk about it?" I suggested that for women who are seriously impacted by peri-menopause or menopause it might be advisable to raise your menopause within financial proceedings on divorce as a factor for consideration. Why? Because the court has a duty to consider all the facts of your case, including your individual needs and circumstances.

What does it mean for my divorce if my marriage was short?

Those who have only been married a few years might feel that the court’s financial process shouldn’t apply to them in the way that it does to long marriages and those where children are involved. However, the legal approach to this, as shown in recent case law, is not straightforward.

Divorce during the menopause - should I talk about it?

I came across a podcast on the menopause the other day… and then an article… and then I saw a book on it… You may well have had a similar experience. It seems like the menopause is (finally) a "hot topic" (no pun intended). It's in the newspaper, Davina's making documentaries, and I can't go on a run with my local running group without someone bringing it up. Maybe it's just my age, but I don't think so. It seems that one of the last great taboos may be being broken.
