In Dubai, a woman was recently seeking a divorce from her husband on the grounds that he couldn’t satisfy her sexual needs. In what is usually considered a traditional culture where, for example, sex out of marriage is punishable by imprisonment and the perceived role of men and women in society and at home is very different to the UK, the case grabbed our attention.
As we leave the winter behind, and with it the trivialisation of divorce by some parts of the media and the frenzy of “Black Monday” and “D Day”, the asset-rich in unhappy marriages should start thinking about when, strategically, to end their marriages.
Jane Keir outlines 10 of the key things you need to know about the complexities of divorces involving farms.

Many long-term cohabiting couples assume that, upon a breakdown of their relationship, they will receive similar treatment to married couples. This is a dangerous assumption for cohabiting couples to make as they currently have a very different legal status to married couples. The Cohabitation Rights Bill aims to provide basic protection for cohabitants and the Bill, if passed, will be welcome news for long-term cohabitees.
