The UK assumes responsibility for its sanctions policy

Deal or no deal, when the UK’s transition agreement expires at 11pm on 31 December 2020 the country will no longer participate in EU sanctions arrangements or otherwise give effect to EU sanctions regimes. Instead, it will operate a two tier system, devising its own sanctions policies and measures which will be supplemented by sanctions measures imposed as a result of United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

HMRC fails to deliver on pledge to increase criminal prosecutions by end of 2020, FOI request reveals

HMRC has dramatically failed to deliver on the pledge in its 2015 – 2020 business plan to increase the number of criminal prosecutions of wealthy individuals and corporates to 100 per year by 2020.

Return to sender: Illegal waste exports are returned to the UK

On 28 October 2020 the Environment Agency (“EA”) announced that a consignment of 21 waste containers, which were illegally shipped to Sri Lanka in 2017, had been successfully returned to their point of origin in the UK.
