The SRA are encouraging lawyers to “stay in their lane” and not provide advice outside of their areas of expertise. Further, where firms do not regularly provide tax advice, HMRC related disputes are often outside of firm’s insurance policies which can, of course, cause difficulties in the event that such work is advised upon.
