Prior to joining Kingsley Napley, Sophie was a Senior Crown Prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Sophie prosecuted the full spectrum of general crime, from road traffic matters to serious violent offences. She frequently appeared as the prosecuting advocate in Magistrates’ Court trials and hearings. Sophie provides sharp, tailored advice on all areas of substantive criminal law, procedure, evidence, disclosure and trial advocacy. She can guide her clients through the criminal justice system and represent them at all stages of the criminal process.
Sophie has particular expertise in defending individuals accused of sexual offences, having worked as a prosecutor in the CPS Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit (RASSO) before joining Kingsley Napley. Sophie has a deep understanding of the prosecutor’s perspective and the CPS’s approach to cases involving sexual offences, which she reflects in her legal advice and defence strategy.
Sophie works on large-scale complex investigations brought by authorities including the SFO, CMA and European Commission. She advises on investigations into bribery, corruption and antitrust violations. She has also worked on internal investigations looking into suspected regulatory breaches, with multijurisdictional elements. Additionally, Sophie has led on compliance advice and training following the conclusion of such investigations. Sophie advises corporate and individual clients from a broad range of sectors, including technology, energy and financial services.
Sophie has acted on the leading follow-on private damages cases appearing before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, the UK High Court and Court of Appeal. She has defended corporates and individuals in regulatory action and private damages claims.
Sophie’s practice includes representing individuals in major public inquiries.
Before joining Kingsley Napley, Sophie was a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the CPS’s RASSO Unit and the Magistrates’ Court Advocacy Unit. Sophie was also an Associate in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Dispute Resolution department. At Freshfields, Sophie specialised in regulatory investigations, antitrust litigation, and public law disputes.
Sophie holds a first class degree in Law from the University of Cambridge and a Distinction in the Legal Practice Course (LPC).
