From garage to unicorn – Employment law lessons for scaling tech teams

In June 2024, we wrote a blog on the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) New Inspection and Regulation Regime, with a particular focus on key changes, its rationale, practical applications, and early signs of difficulties.
The role of Physician Associates (PAs) and Anaesthesia Associates (AAs) are still considered to be relatively new, but they have been practising in the NHS since 2002 and 2004 respectively. As of June 2023, there were 73 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) AAs and 1,508 FTE PAs working in NHS Trusts and other core organisations. A further 1,707 FTE PAs were working in GP practices and primary care networks. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan aims by 2036/37 to have established a workforce of 10,000 PAs and 2,000 AAs.
According to Home Office data, in 2023-2024 in England alone, 587 hotels, boarding houses or hostels had primary fires, of these 458 were accidental, two involved accidental fatalities and there were 92 non fatal casualties.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has implemented a new inspection and regulation regime which is pegged to enhance the regulation of health and social care services. This blog will detail the key changes, their rationale, practical applications, and any early signs of difficulties.
