Social Mobility

Anything that can be done to improve opportunities and access to the profession, however small our contribution might be, is absolutely worth doing.

Will Hayes, Barrister

We aim to better enable social mobility through our attraction, recruitment and retention, so that people from a wide range of socio economic backgrounds have an equal opportunity to succeed and realise their potential.

Here’s just some of what we did in 2021/2:

  • We become an Employer Partner with the Social Mobility Foundation –a charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people.
  • We partnered with the Open University to run  training and education programmes for student lawyers who are looking for a change of career and can bring a wealth of experience and insight.
  • We adopted a new recruitment platform and approach to ensure we provide equal opportunities to those from disadvantaged backgrounds in our future Trainee selection process.
  • We signed the Social Mobility Pledge committing to  boost opportunities to those from people from disadvantaged backgrounds or circumstances.
  • We established a Social Mobility Champions programme to help anyone in the firm who might benefit from support and advice in their career.
