New Sentencing Health and Safety and Corporate Manslaughter Sentencing Guidelines - Massive increase in fines for medium and large companies expected

Recent press reports (for example see The Times) have added further credence to the widespread belief that new sentencing guidelines expected to be published in the next week or so will recommend the imposition of far higher fines for companies convicted of health and safety and corporate manslaughter offences.

Care Home charged with Corporate Manslaughter

Sherwood Rise Limited, owner of the Autumn Grange Care Home in Nottingham has been charged under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 (CMCHA).

Publicity Order and prison sentence in latest corporate manslaughter case

On 3 February 2015 Cumbrian building firm Peter Mawson Ltd became the latest company to be convicted of corporate manslaughter. The conviction followed the death of Jason Pennington who was killed in 2011 when he fell through a skylight onto concrete. The company, which pleaded guilty to the offence, was fined £220,000, as well as costs of £31,500.
