Work Experience

We are now accepting Work Experience applications!

Kingsley Napley offers a number of unpaid work experience placements throughout the year, giving students an insight into life at a busy London law firm.

Every work experience placement is different, but all our placements are designed to give students the opportunity to make the most out of their time at KN. During a work experience placement you will meet people from across the firm and gain real hands-on experience by sampling lots of different aspects of the role of a lawyer, including;

  • Attending court and meetings with clients and counsel
  • Legal research tasks
  • Drafting documents
  • Shadowing qualified lawyers
  • General administration such as bundling

If you have any queries regarding the work experience offered at Kingsley Napley, please email bmcdaid@kingsleynapley.co.uk

how to apply for Work Experience

Applications for work experience are reviewed at the end of February each year, and successful candidates will be contacted in early March to be offered work experience at the Firm.

Kingsley Napley will only accept applications for work experience via the application form below.

Work experience placements are not remunerated and candidates must be at least 18 years of age, and entitled to work in the UK in order to apply, due to the sensitive nature of the work we undertake.

Due to the large volume of applications that we receive, we will only be able to contact and provide feedback to successful candidates.

What our previous candidates have said

I would definitely recommend Kingsley Napley's work experience programme, in fact, I couldn't recommend it enough! The firm did an amazing job of handling the difficulties presented by the current situation (being covid-19), and never ceased to make me feel welcomed and valued as a work experience student. The breadth of sectors that the firm offers is a vast one, and for students the fact that this is available is something that really enhances the attractiveness of the firm. For someone who is focussed on becoming a solicitor, having work experience under their belt with a highly reputable firm that is leading in the sectors that they wish to go into, it is an invaluable experience that I will always refer back to and capitalise upon everything that I have learnt."

The placement as a whole provided a wealth of information. Even though I am doing a law degree, it was great to see how this applies in reality. What was particularly great about those tasks was the inclusion of a multiplicity of factors to consider- this really allowed me to develop my thinking in a nuanced way that succinctly applies to the situation at hand. In conjunction with this, speaking with the trainees/paralegals was an experience that I really took heed of. It was really reassuring speaking to individuals who have been through the process. They provided some really constructive advice which I will definitely carry into the application process. Liaising with a number of individuals who all hold a variety of experience was really insightful, it also made me think about alternative routes (paralegalling first) to becoming a solicitor which originally, I dismissed."

I would absolutely recommend Kingsley Napley's work experience programme. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand insights into what a career in law is really like and what is involved in developing the skills for high-quality client care, which would benefit any graduate seeking work in any industry."

It was fantastic to have a supervisor for the entire day when joining each team. The supervisors provided significant guidance in terms of the case study tasks and allowed for a rich discussion of the relevant legal problems. I found the opportunities to speak with people at the firm about their own career journey and motivations for working in law to be particularly helpful. Further, I valued doing all of the tasks and believe this gave me a real sense of both the work at the firm and the nature of the clientele."

I found speaking to the associates and some of the partners most useful, as it provided an opportunity to really ask them questions about their career path and their work at KN. They were all incredibly helpful and happy to ask any questions I had. I found they really took the time, even if their day was very busy, to help me and go through the case studies with me also."

Yes I would [recommend Kingsley Napley’s work experience programme]. The Kingsley Napley work experience programme really gives an opportunity to gain an insight into a top law firm who’s culture is centred on team work and collaboration. Each person I spoke with at the firm was incredibly honest and supportive - giving me a real insight into the firm's culture and the work that individuals across the firm do, including legal assistants, associates, senior associates, and partners."
