Tax Journal: One minute with... James Ward, head of the private client team at Kingsley Napley

19 July 2019

James Ward, head of our private client team, answers questions  in this week's Tax Journal.

James answers questions about what keeps him busy at work, the one tax change he would like to make, the one thing he wishes he'd known at the start of his career, and what we should look out for on the tax-front later this year.

James' observations include that his clients wish to protect their assets from the misadventure of their children.

My clients tend to fear their children losing the gift through divorce more than paying the taxman on death."

It would be great to get rid of SDLT (Stamp Duty Land Tax).  And, if it ever arrives, let's abolish the probate fee ('stealth tax') rise as well."

The full interview with James can be read in Tax Journal here.

James Ward has extensive experience in advising families and individuals on wealth protection and tax mitigation, including the drafting of Wills to best suit a client’s financial and family requirements, giving advice on gifting to support the next generation and to mitigate tax,  and the setting up of trusts to protect assets.
