Lavanya's Story
Lavanya Loganathan
I studied History as my undergraduate degree, and then completed a GDL and LPC before starting work as a paralegal in the family team at Kingsley Napley. Having worked at Kingsley Napley for five years prior to starting my training contract, I already had some insight into what trainee life was like at the firm. I knew trainees were given a lot of responsibility on cases, with appropriate supervision, and it was this, coupled with the firm's culture which confirmed KN was the right place for me to train.
I am now in my third seat in Dispute Resolution, having done my first seat in the Corporate, Commercial & Finance team and my second seat in the Family team.
Throughout my training contract I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide array of cases including an IPO, high-net worth financial cases and contentious trust and probate matters. For me what stands out is the firms friendly and collaborative culture. Everyone at the firm, regardless of seniority, is friendly and approachable and takes a real interest in developing trainees.
As a trainee you get to experience different departments, but even if you do not complete a seat in a certain department it’s highly likely one of the cases you are working on will involve another department, for example our dispute resolution, criminal and regulatory team collaborate on matters regularly.
On reflection if I were to give myself a piece of advice 5 years ago, it would be not to give up on obtaining a training contract or be put off by rejection. It took me a while to secure my training contract, however during that time I gained invaluable skills as a paralegal, which have hugely helped me in my training contract.
