The charity seeks to deliver services that build confidence, independence and inspire people affected by spinal cord injury to transform their lives.
World Diabetes Day is marked on 14 November as it is the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting who co-discovered insulin together with Charles Best in 1922. The theme for World Diabetes Day 2024 is “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps” with the goal being to reduce the risk of diabetes and to ensure that everyone who is diagnosed with diabetes has access to quality care, diagnosis and management.
Maternal deaths have significantly increased according to the latest data from MBRRACE-UK – an organisation which investigates the deaths of women and babies during pregnancy or shortly after. Their annual report published this month called ‘Saving Lives, Improving Mothers’ Care’ details that between 2020 and 2022, 13.56 women per 100,000 in the UK died during pregnancy or up to six weeks after pregnancy. The report covers a wide variety of concerns and makes new national recommendations to improve care.
Losing a loved one when you think it may be because they received poor medical care is incredibly stressful at a time when family and friends are grieving their loss. Often, people want to see a written record of the final days of their loved one and what happened to them, or they might want to go through years of records to ascertain whether there was diagnosis that may have been missed, such as cancer.
Immediate action to improve maternity care in the UK is undoubtedly needed and this week the Government has announced the launch of a pilot programme to help reduce avoidable brain injuries in childbirth.
