A month after the brutal death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in the United States, the spotlight remains firmly on the injustices faced worldwide by Black people (and other ethnic minorities). While law enforcement and the criminal justice systems in the US and UK have come under particular scrutiny, there is also a focus on structural racism and wider socioeconomic disparities.

Windrush Day - 22 June 2020: so where are we now?
On 22 June, people will come together to celebrate what has now been called, “Windrush Day”. The day is being marked with celebrations around the country, which may well be a challenge given social distancing. However, as a quick reminder, this day is to mark the injustice and scandal that many people faced, predominantly from the Caribbean who, after being in the UK for more than 50 years were asked to leave the country.

Gender neutral legal drafting – not why, but why not?
On sitting down to write this blog, I was a little embarrassed. When you actually take the time to think about drafting legal documents in a way that is gender neutral, it seems to me that the question isn’t why do this, but why not?
