Tier 2 sponsors considering applications for certain scientific, teaching, tax and architectural roles will be pleasantly surprised by the rule change announced yesterday in an addendum to the Tier 2 guidance. The Home Office has admitted that the March 2019 changes to the minimum expected salary rates for these types of roles were incorrect. In fact, all the figures stated should have been lower.
So for any sponsors who have recently discounted an application where the minimum expected salary threshold has not been met, they may wish to think again. Plus, for any sponsors considering an application at the moment where they have flexibility in the salary being offered for the role and are paying at the top of the salary bracket in accordance with what was the relevant minimum salary expectation, they may wish to look at the salary figure again.
