The NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) is the body which manages legal claims made against the NHS in England. Its report in October 2012 noted that between 2009 and 2010 some 5.5 million babies were born in England and that only 5,087 maternity related claims for injury were made against the NHS during this same period.
