Actor Terry Jones’ children challenge his Will - but does suffering from dementia mean you can’t make a valid Will?
Stonewall is a charity that promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) rights. Kingsley Napley (KN) joined Stonewall’s Diversity Championship Programme earlier this year. The Diversity Championship Programme is a way in which employers can bring LGB visibility, inclusion and rights into the working environment by working in partnership with Stonewall. This can take place on several levels, such as raising awareness within the firm by holding talks and events and ensuring that appropriate policies are implemented. The main aim of the programme is to encourage inclusivity and to ensure that homophobia, or discrimination of any kind, is not tolerated.
A colleague and I attended Stonewall’s launch for their Starting Out Guide on 16 October 2014. The Guide includes 600 LGB friendly employers and the aim is to give prospective employees an idea of where they can work and feel valued for their skills and feel comfortable being themselves regardless of their sexual orientation. The launch was a success and the attendees included people from several sectors, such as the emergency services, local government, universities, banks and law firms. This is the first year KN is featured in the Guide and we are very excited and proud about this.
KN has always welcomed people from different backgrounds and this is what makes the firm such a unique, welcoming and enjoyable workplace. By being a Diversity Champion, we are able to progress our ideas further with the help of Stonewall. Moving forward, we aim to be part of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, which is a list of Stonewall’s top 100 employers who have the most gay-friendly workplaces in the UK. Stonewall compiles the list by considering the employers’ achievements in relation to LGB rights. By being a Diversity Champion, we want to show prospective employees and prospective/existing clients that we are an all-inclusive workplace that attracts the most talented people regardless of sexuality.
