Enhancing Public Accountability: Key Elements of the Public Office (Accountability) Bill 2025
Kirsty Cook
It’s official: Les Jeux Olympiques have returned to Paris after 100 years. Paris is one of only three cities, along with London and Los Angeles, to have hosted the Olympic Games three times. After two weeks of sport, the Anglo-French rivalry is very much alive and almost too close to call; at the time of publication, France is just ahead with 54 medals (including 14 gold), while Team GB has 51 medals (including 13 gold).
Of course, the world of sports is not the only forum for this historic rivalry. As part of our Anglo-French practice, we are well-versed in the significant and sometimes surprising differences between French law and English law, and our French clients in London rely on us to help them navigate a legal and court system which is entirely different to their home jurisdiction.
In honour of the Games’ return to the French capital, we take a look at some of the key developments in Family Law on both sides of the Channel over the last century.

Conclusion
A key element of our work as Anglo-French Family lawyers is helping our clients to compare these two jurisdictions so that they can make informed decisions about the appropriate place to pursue their divorce, draft their prenuptial agreement or negotiate arrangements for their children. Every client’s situation is unique and it is of critical importance to take specialist legal advice when making important life decisions. Our extensive network of Anglo-French professionals can help minimise the cultural shock for French individuals living and working in England who may require legal services not just in the Family law world.
