Marcia Longdon, a partner in our immigration team, was recently interviewed by Black Ballad for their article: The stories of black women and the immigration system.
In the interview, Marcia talks about how, in her opinion, Windrush was the biggest catastrophe in UK immigration history, which happened because certain members of the Windrush generation, after decades of living and working in Britain, were wrongly classified as illegal immigrants, taken to detention centres and in some cases even deported.
Marcia goes on to explain what has happened to the individuals affected and talks about government policy since. She also discusses the issues faced by the black community in the UK which makes them more vulnerable in the immigration system.
"This is a time when the government could work towards rectifying all the wrongs of the past and work on introducing an immigration system that works."
