Kingsley Napley first legal employer to sign Menopause Workplace Pledge

18 October 2021

Law firm Kingsley Napley LLP is pleased to announce it has signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge run by the Wellbeing of Women charity and supported by the Countess of Wessex. It was the first law firm to do so and is currently the only City law firm on the charity’s employer list.

In signing the pledge, Kingsley Napley has committed to:

  • Recognising that the menopause is an issue in the workplace and women need support;
  • Talking openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause;
  • Actively supporting and informing employees and partners affected by the menopause.

The firm recently held a menopause awareness workshop about the menopause and offered one-to-one sessions with a specialist. It will continue to champion issues connected to the menopause in the workplace, recognising the importance of support and dialogue for those affected as well as education of the wider firm population and clients.

Speaking on World Menopause Day (today 18/10), Kingsley Napley’s Managing Partner Linda Woolley comments:

Kingsley Napley has long been a female-friendly law firm with women currently making up 55% of our partnership and 70% of our overall population. We believe strongly in supporting women of all ages in the workforce, not only via direct support but also by encouraging others in our community to be supportive.

As well as offering flexible working arrangements, enhanced shared parental leave and a full and varied wellbeing programme, we were recently the first law firm to announce special leave for pregnancy loss. Today’s menopause pledge puts us at the forefront of employers who positively support women experiencing challenges of a different kind. I am proud that Kingsley Napley is part of this important new initiative.”

According to the charity Wellbeing of Women, almost 900,000 women in the UK have quit their jobs due to the menopause. The charity advocates that by supporting people affected by the menopause at work, employers can help to increase staff retention, reduce recruitment costs, improve productivity and wellbeing and ensure a more diverse workforce – all goals Kingsley Napley continues to work towards.
