Although some institutions have been in the spotlight more than others, UK universities across the board have reported a sharp upturn in the number of complaints made about sexual violence in recent years; indeed, some statistics put the figure as high as an 82% increase between 2014 and 2018.

UKCP issues new Code of Ethics and Professional Practice

The new Code of Ethics is a product of four years’ work by the UKCP and replaces the previous version, Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct, which was implemented some 10 years ago. The new Code comes into force on 1 October 2019. This means that any complained-of-behaviour that occurs on or after 1 October 2019 will be judged against the new code but conduct that occurs before that date will be judged against the old code.

New non-financial conduct reporting requirements for the big six auditing firms

The FRC has written to six of the largest audit firms asking for internal governance documents revealing how they deal with non-financial (mis)conduct. The review arises as part of the FRC’s Audit Firm Monitoring and Supervision (AFMAS) responsibilities. The framework focuses on five key pillars: leadership and governance, values and behaviours, business models and financial soundness, risk management and control and audit quality
