Aideen McGarry recently spoke to Penny Harger, relationship officer at charity Peeps HIE - https://www.peeps-hie.org/ - which provides support to those affected by Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy.
The Kingsley Napley Clinical Negligence team specialises in birth injury claims including cases of HIE and Cerebral Palsy. We asked Penny to come and talk to us about HIE to provide a source of information for those visiting our site. Penny gives information about the causes of HIE and information around cooling treatment. She explains the challenges for families, particularly after discharge from hospital and she gives insights into the support that can be obtained through the charity. Penny also talks about her own experiences as a mother of an affected child and what she would have liked to have known earlier.
Penny highlights that HIE is not a well-known condition and the challenges that brings as a parent.
Penny and Aideen also discuss what those affected by HIE need from a lawyer when there may be medical negligence involved.
Anyone with a question surrounding claims for medical negligence related to birth and brain injuries can contact us for a free, no obligation consultation here.
