Our team acted for the family of a deceased 56-year-old man, Mr A, who tragically died following negligent treatment. Mr A had a history of some cardiac problems including atrial fibrillation and left ventricular dysfunction and was suffering from chest pain. It was planned that he would be seen by a Cardiologist as an outpatient. In the meantime, he attended the emergency department at a local hospital with increasing chest pain. However, he was discharged on the same day. Around one hour after his discharge Mr A suffered a cardiac arrest at home and died.
We brought a claim against the hospital for an array of failures including that when Mr A was seen in hospital it was not noted that he had unstable angina and that there were abnormalities on his ECG. The hospital Trust admitted liability and accepted that earlier intervention could have saved Mr A. A settlement of £120,000 was later reached for our clients.
