Gerard joined Kingsley Napley as a Partner in November 2008 and headed the firm’s Dispute Resolution department between 2008 and 2012 . He has over 30 years experience specialising in complex commercial disputes, international litigation and arbitration. Gerard also specialises in the areas of Sport, Entertainment and  Intellectual Property law and Defamation and Privacy.

Gerard’s cases often involve having to obtain freezing and search orders, advising on injunctions to prevent breach of confidence and privacy and obtaining and enforcing multi-jurisdiction orders and awards.

Gerard ‘s clients include national and international companies and organisations, politicians and senior officials, sports and entertainment personalities and entities, a newspaper group, and international media rights companies.

  • Acting for an International Middle Eastern conglomerate in claims for fraud, conspiracy and deceit in proceedings which are taking place in the courts of three different jurisdictions
  • Acting for an African conglomerate in a major contractual dispute taking place in the Commercial Court in London
  • Acting for a French Champagne producer in an LCIA arbitration against a national distributor
  • Advising an international hedge fund on a claim for breach of contract against a UK based Bank
  • Acting for senior political figures ,international entertainers, sportsmen and sports agents in contractual disputes and claims for libel and breach of privacy/ misuse of confidential information against national newspapers and media .
  • Acting for a Claimant in a leading case concerning State Immunity and the question of whether State Immunity can protect a State and State individuals in relation to allegations of torture. The case having been determined in the House of Lords in 2006 it is presently to be determined by the European Court of Human Rights

  • Acting on behalf of the Claimant in a leading Court of Appeal case on the question of abuse of process
  • Acting for two members of an internationally famous pop group in a dispute between its members following the group’s  break up
  • Acting for a leading football manager in a libel action resulting in the highest recorded award of damages by a jury against a national newspaper
  • Acting for a leading newspaper group in several claims for defamation
