Furloughed employees must receive redundancy in full - Richard Fox quoted in Personnel Today, HR Review and Accountancy Daily

31 July 2020

Richard Fox, Partner in our Employment Law team, was quoted in Personnel Today, HR Review and Accountancy Daily on 30 July 2020. Richard was commenting on new government legislation guaranteeing that furloughed employees are entitled to full redundancy pay in the event that they are made redundant after 31 July.

Richard praised the announcement, saying that:

This is welcome news to clear up uncertainty, and given the number of redundancies we expect this autumn when furlough ends, it comes at the right time"

Many employers will have been computing for these purposes at normal rates of pay but some, that are not well-resourced and frankly struggling, will have sought to capitalise on any residuary doubt around this issue. It is right to close this uncertainty down"
