Government announces Lasting Power of Attorney “revamp”
Lucy Bluck
The founding partner of our firm, David Napley advised Jeremy Thorpe in the trial portrayed in the BBC’s A Very English Scandal.
There had been a long running campaign, started by two journalists, into allegations that Jeremy Thorpe had conspired to murder a previous lover, a man called Norman Scott.
Jeremy Thorpe, was MP for North Devon from 1959-1979 and was leader of the Liberal Party between 1967 and 1976.
David Napley was a very well known, wise solicitor. David did a long committal hearing in the West Country which formed the foundation of George Carman’s very successful defence of Jeremy Thorpe at the Old Bailey.
This high profile case is a good example of the kind of clients the firm has acted for, and continues to act for. In 2012, we produced a video to celebrate our 75th anniversary and included many of our high profile cases. You can watch the clip about Thorpe at 4:02.
