Specialist Area:

On 31 December 2020, free movement of persons between the EU and the UK will end after 47 years. To recognise this enormous change to immigration in this part of Europe, we are holding a "Farewell' webinar where we will examine three big issues from the vantage point of three very different participants and observers over many years:
  1. From the perspective of a British judge, what is the meaning of the end of free movement of persons within the EU?
  2. As an eminent professor and specialist in free movement of persons at a Dutch university, what has been the contribution over 47 years of the UK in the development of free movement of persons?
  3. From a practitioners perspective, what are the key issues regarding the incorporation of EU citizens and their families into UK national law?
This event will provide insights into the legal and practical consequences for people, our governments and our courts of the end of an era.
