We acted for a client who manages decommissioning in some of the UK’s nuclear power sites. Most of the employees acquired their specialist skills in the US, where the nuclear power industry is much larger.
We identified that several of the client’s job positions should be included in the shortage occupation list as the necessary skills required for these positions are not easily found in the EU. We assisted the client with making a strong submission to the Migration Advisory Commission (MAC) justifying this. We achieved great results for the client as nine positions were added to the shortage occupation list. Consequently, the client no longer needs to undertake the resident labour market test before they offer employment to an employee carrying out one of those nine specialist roles.
