StaRs blog: The new ‘freelance’ solicitor: practical aspects and our predictions
We recently advised a council facing allegations of corruption: a long-standing employee was suspected of having accepted cash payments in return for having allowed a private company to misuse council land.
We arranged for the review of data held on the employee’s computer to identify relevant emails and transactions. We also conducted interviews of other council staff, local residents and other users of the site in order to establish not only what had happened, but who knew what had happened and when.
After our investigation concluded, the council brought a successful civil claim against the employee concerned and the private company.
