Estoppel claim (against estate)

We acted for a client in a proprietary estoppel against his late father’s estate, which primarily comprised the family hotel business. Our client had dedicated his life to the business on the assurance from his father that when he died he would receive half the business (with the other half to go to his brother). However, on the death of our client’s father it was revealed that our client had been entirely excluded from his father’s will.

We conducted a detailed investigation into the management of the business during our client’s father’s lifetime (which had led to our client suffering additional financial loss) and subsequently participated in a mediation which resulted in a favourable settlement for our client, without the need to issue proceedings.
