AML: HMRC flexes enforcement muscle to the tune of £7.8 million
We acted for Mrs A, who was one of five children in a dispute against her four siblings and the executors of her father’s estate. The estate was initially valued at £2.5m.
The dispute involved allegations by Mrs A of maladministration by the executors, breaches of trust, offshore assets and non-disclosure by the other siblings of loans that they must repay to the estate.
Extensive correspondence was exchanged between the parties and, largely as a result of our persistence and expertise, substantial assets worth approximately £850k were discovered offshore which had been concealed from the estate accounts. Those assets were clawed back and added to the estate as part of the settlement.
Not only were we successful in securing a significantly increased share in the estate for our client, but we were able to do so whilst avoiding the issue of legal proceedings.
