The prestigious Lund University in Sweden has awarded Elspeth Guild, Immigration partner at Kingsley Napley, an honorary degree (juris doctor honoris causa) for her "decisive contribution to the scholarly understanding of migration law".
This tribute to Elspeth's internationally acknowledged expertise is one of only two honorary degrees being presented by the University in 2008, and has been awarded in recognition of Elspeth's contribution to the law faculty of Lund University, through her teaching of doctoral candidates and masters students, as well as numerous other academic and professional achievements.
In addition to her role as Partner at Kingsley Napley, Elspeth holds posts as professor of Law at Radboud University of Nijmegen, Netherlands; visiting professor at the London School of Economics (LSE); co-editor of the European Journal and a council member of JUSTICE (the UK legal and human rights organisation).
During the course of her distinguished career, Elspeth has been credited with "successfully repositioning migration law at the intersection of dialogue within and beyond the legal discipline".
Commenting on the award, Elspeth said: "I am extremely flattered by the honour Lund University have granted me and I am delighted to accept this award from my respected colleagues."
Elspeth has a particular interest in counter terrorism laws and their impact on the individual rights and obligations of migrants and refugees, and is currently Special Advisor to the House of Lords enquiry into Economic Migration in the EU.
