Urology is the surgical speciality involved with the management of the renal tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra) and with the male reproductive system. The speciality includes treatment of conditions such as:
- urinary tract infection;
- urinary stones and procedures for their removal;
- benign prostate conditions, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH);
- cancers of the renal tract;
- stress incontinence;
- male fertility.
Urologists work closely with nephrologists and gynaecologists, and may also specialise in the fields of andrology, neuro-urology or female urology. Urologists may also work closely with renal transplant surgeons.
