Rheumatology is the study of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, including the bones and joints, by rheumatologists.
Common conditions include:
- arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other causes of arthritis (ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthropathy, etc.);
- connective tissue disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), polymyalgia rheumatica, temporal arteritis, sarcoidosis;
- various causes of vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels).
