Oncology is the study of cancer (tumours) and is carried out by specialists known as oncologists.  Oncologists are concerned with the diagnosis, investigation and treatment of all varieties of cancer, in conjunction with other specialists.  They are especially involved in treatment with chemotherapy.  Radiotherapists are specialists in the treatment of cancers with radiation.  Oncologists may have specialist interests in a particular area of cancer, e.g. gynaecological oncology (female reproductive system, including ovarian cancer and cervical cancer) or paediatric oncology (cancer in children).
