Public Funding

We hold a franchise from the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to offer clients Public Funding (formerly known as Legal Aid). This is currently available for clinical negligence claims but not for most personal injury claims. In limited circumstances, public funding may also be available for Inquests.  

To qualify for Public Funding you have to come within the strict financial means test that the LSC applies and your potential claim must have reasonable prospects of success. We will assess your eligibility with you and assist you with completing the necessary application forms.  

Public Funding acts like an insurance policy in that if you lose your claim, the Legal Services Commission will pay your legal costs (subject to any contribution that they have asked you to pay towards them). If you win your case, the Legal Services Commission will require reimbursement of the funding they have provided. The majority of this reimbursement generally comes from the Defendant but some may be taken out of your compensation money.
