Richard is an associate in the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Department at Kingsley Napley LLP. He joined the department in 2003 and qualified as a solicitor in April 2005. Prior to joining Kingsley Napley Richard read law at King’s College, London before completing the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law.
Richard conducts a varied caseload and has a particular interest in spinal injuries, orthopaedic claims, cases involving hepatobiliary medicine and the law of quantum. As well as running a varied caseload, Richard advises clients post settlement on Local Authority and Primary Care Trust funding issues.
Examples of some of Richard’s recently concluded successful cases include:
- A claim for a man who sustained a retroperitoneal perforation during an ERCP procedure (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) for suspected gall stones within the common bile duct.
- A claim for a woman who was rendered tetraplegic following surgery to stablise a fracture to her C2 vertebra.
- A claim for loss of financial dependency for two young adults following the death of their mother from a Grade 4 sacral pressure sore.
- A claim for a 60 year old man who sustained a subtle brain injury resulting in permanent cognitive impairments which affected his ability to continue working as a QC and part time Recorder (Richard assisted Dr Jock Mackenzie with this case).
- A claim arising from the death of a 21-year old man in 2007 as a consequence of the failure to diagnose and treat pulmonary emboli (Richard assisted Dr Jock Mackenzie with this case).
Richard has recently published articles in the Solicitors’ Journal on disclosure within the Coroners’ Court, and the Personal Injury Law Journal on interim payments.
